Pan heads are slightly rounded with short vertical sides. Square drive is designed to reduce the risk of cam-out (stripping) and allow single-handed installation.

Zinc plated steel
Heat treated for adequate strength. Zinc plated for moderate corrosion resistance.
Flat heads are countersunk (cone shaped under the head) with a flat top. Star pin-in is a tamper resistant drive that requires a special driver to install.
